I love writing communities that really work. Sadly, many forums and bulletin boards aren’t moderated, are overrun by cliquey immature posters, or just don’t get traffic. The forums that I remain an active member of are vibrant, supportive and useful.
Talkback community for Writing Magazine and Writers’ News subscribers Talkback is the community for Writing Magazine and Writers’ News subscribers, though anyone is free to join. This is a chat and advice forum without a great deal of graphics and fancy stuff, but with a terrific bunch of people who are a mixture of professional writers and beginners and a variety of ages and locations. They are mostly concentrating on writing and not all of them are particularly net-savvy so it’s a very user friendly site for beginners to forums.
Writersbeat Writing community and forum Writersbeat is a Writing community and forum. WritersBeat does have a lot of graphics and fancy stuff, and is also mostly beginners to writing but experienced net users. So it’s quite the opposite of Talkback. There are some professional writers and semi-professionals thrown into the mix. What I like about WritersBeat is that it’s a site where you can post your work and get critiques, which is reciprocal, as well as it being a great bunch of people. Little ‘flaming’ is tolerated. They run competitions and they have forums as well as review areas. I was ‘Featured Writer’ for May 2007.
YouWriteOn - Reviewing site YouWriteOn is a site for reciprocal reviewing, sponsored by the Arts Council. It has been referred to The X-Factor for books. The idea is that novel extracts and stories are peer-reviewed and every month the five with the highest scores go onto the 'bestsellers' list, which will then be entered for a competition at the end of the year. It’s an excellent idea. All three of my entries have made it to the top five, and have become 'bestsellers’, which is quite an achievement as there are hundreds, probably thousands of books uploaded. I found this site extremely useful for feedback, and the forum is very friendly. I no longer upload any new stories as I am now published and the main ethos of the site is to get your work into a publishable form. My story Resurrection is going to be included in the forthcoming YouWriteOn anthology.
For examples of my writing on these and other sites, see my Writing Portfolio. Have a read of some of the feedback and comments on my writing and you’ll see why I’m addicted to these sites!

As well as my regular contributions to writing forums, I write for a lesbian dating site, PlanetSappho. (see PlanetSappho on my Writing Portfolio for a list)

Then there is my Glob (blog). I call it my Globs of Wisdom, which is ironic of course. I keep a regular blog hosted by WordPress and others. I call them my Globs of Wisdom, which is ironic of course. To keep my hoards of fans updated I’ve gone a-globbing. For all information of my latest ventures, and where I’ll be appearing, either with my magazine or book, podcast, artwork or animations go to the globs.

Just after they announced that my story would be appearing in the 2008 anthology Eight Days, Legend Press invited me to be part of the authors’ group blog on their site. Legendary Authors’ group blog.

NaNoWriMo

I am proud to be a
NaNoWriMo winner! November is National Novel Writing Month and in 2003 I attempted to produce 50,000 words of unedited tosh barely resembling my MA novel.
