I joined the Elite School of Martial Arts (ESMA) in January 2006 and regularly attend practices, gradings and tournaments. The Cardiff ESMA group is affiliated to WKKA. I am currently a blue belt (I've done seven gradings so far) and am up for the brown belt next.

This is something that I've wanted to do for years but never did. I always fought as a child but this is the first time it has been in a legitimised environment. We go as a family and it's a good sport to do together on a weekend.



After karate I can't eat straight away because of being awash with adrenaline, but later on I'm always ravenous and enjoy a high-protein meal with lots of energy-replacing fat. I like to swim to keep my muscles from seizing up between fights.

I love to fight in the ring at the club, it makes me feel like a real fighter. Once I have some more photos of myself in gear and sparring, I'll put them up here.
