Footage from the book launch for Silence was featured in an S4C documentary about homophobic bullying. I was interviewed as part of the Welsh language current affairs program for young people Hacio. Photo Gallery for Book Launch at Waterstone’s Cardiff The launch in Cardiff Waterstone’s on July 26th this year is immortalised in the Silence Gallery on my website. Wales Book Tour August 2008 While Silence was Waterstone’s Book of the Month, I travelled around some of the other Waterstone’s stores in Wales to promote the book. Swansea, Newport and Aberystwyth branches were happy to host me at a signing table. Photos can be seen in the Silence Gallery. Interview on BBC Radio I was on the Arts Show on BBC Radio Wales, Thursday 2nd October at 6.30-7.00pm. The show was presented by Nicola Heywood Thomas and the topic of the week was storytelling. Unfortunately the BBC iPlayer link was only available for a week after the show so I can’t link to it here, but it was a very good experience and good promotion for Silence. Guardian Books Blog I was invited to blog on the Guardian as part of the promotion for Silence during August. I was paid for this piece and saw it as a step into journalism. A furore was sparked among the regular Guardian commenters who seemed to see me as an upstart. Some amusing banter ensued. Still available to view here although unfortunately closed to comments. Reviews of Silence Some very positive reviews of Silence have been coming in from all angles. The now infamous one from the Western Mail where the reviewer said the book was ‘not one for granny’ has been quoted often since! Links to interviews, articles and reviews can be seen on my website. I urge anyone who has read the book and has an Amazon.co.uk account to please take the time to add your honest opinion to the Amazon reviews. Vote for the Book Cover Silence was selected as book cover of the week on this popular book blog at the beginning of October and during November the voting is open for the cover art for five books. Click the ‘VOTE FOR Silence’ text next to the image on the voting page and an email will be generated to the site owner. Gudrun Jobst is the artist who designed the cover, and it’s good exposure for my book.
