Kit’s Very Own Page

Kit-bag in the back garden

I know it’s a bit late in the day, as Hermione and Mika have both had their own pages on my site for a long time. But Kit came to me like a cat out of hell and I never thought he’d stick around. He’s an old blokey cat with a bald bum and a habit of thinking the world is his litter tray. But I love him to bits, as the video below should demonstrate. He’s my darling and I don’t know how I could ever have done without him. So affectionate and funny that I’d forgive him anything.

Kit the Writer’s Cat 5:41

Added: April 06, 2008

This short film is dedicated to my lovely cat Kit, who is the star. He has been so supportive over the recent time of editing my novel Silence, due to be published by Legend Press in July 2008. You can see just how involved he is in my writing by watching the film.

Cats feature strongly in my self-image, and black cats even more so. Through much of my life I have lived with a black cat, although the cats themselves have come and gone.

A witch’s ‘familiar’ could be any animal, not only cats, but black cat’s became the stereotype when the true horrific nature of accusations of witchcraft became a harmless children’s story. Even so, cats have always been my preferred companions as they are intelligent, independent and clean. With a cat, the relationship feels like equals rather than that one is superior (the cat always tries to be superior but I still put him out at night).

Kit-bag in the back garden

Kit came to live with us in 2006. He needed a home because his previous owner had died and he was hanging around the house half-wild. He was very scared at first but soon managed to assert his personality. Kit was the name he arrived with, but I renamed him Kit-bag on account of his baggy belly. I have used cats for inspiration in my art (see 'cats' on my Recent Art Page) and also in my writing.

Kit is a real live LOLcat. Every position he puts himself and every expression on his face is the perfect pose for one of these funny image viruses. That's why I use him as my main model. Here are a few from the icanhavecheezburger.com site. Click on each image to vote for Kit in the ICHC competition.
